VJBL 2026/27 Tryouts

Registration is now open for Craigieburn Eagles VJBL tryouts. Everything you need to register with confidence is on this page — please read before you register.

There are two tryout phases this season:

• New to Rep (U14, U16 & U18) — for players who have never played VJBL. Tryout: Thursday 1 October. Players who progress move forward into the VJBL tryouts.
• VJBL — for players who currently play or have previously played VJBL (with Craigieburn or any other club). Tryouts: 5–22 October.

You'll select one group when you register, so it's important to choose the right one. Read on for how to pick the right group, age groups, dates and times, and the full guidelines.

Which group do I select?

When you register, you'll select one group for your child. Choose carefully — the group you pick determines which tryout they attend.

• Never played VJBL? → Select the New to Rep group for your child's age. This is your child's entry point into Eagles rep basketball.
• Currently or previously played VJBL (any club)? → Select the VJBL group for your child's age.
• U12s → Select the U12 group. There is no separate New to Rep tryout for U12.
• U20s → Select the U20 group. There is no separate New to Rep tryout for U20.

All sessions at Craigieburn Sports Stadium (unless otherwise notified).

Phase 1 — New to Rep (U14, U16 & U18 only)

All sessions Thursday 1 October:

• U14 Boys & Girls: 5:00–6:00pm
• U16 Boys & Girls: 6:00–7:00pm
• U18 Boys & Girls: 7:00–8:00pm

Players who progress from the New to Rep tryout join the VJBL tryouts below.

Age groups

Find your child's age group by their year of birth:

‍U20:               2008 & 2009

U12 note: U12 is the only age group where a younger player may play up. Players born in 2018 are welcome to register for U12 if they're ready to play up — this is optional, not required.

Key information

• Cost: $25 per player to try out.
• No refunds. The $25 tryout fee is non-refundable, including if a player is not selected or is cut during the tryout process.
• Attendance: Attending all sessions is strongly recommended.
• Closed tryouts: To keep players focused and free of pressure, tryout sessions are closed — parents and guardians are not permitted courtside during sessions.
• No guarantee of selection. Trying out does not guarantee a place in a team, and selections are final.
• U12 & U14 players: If selected, players in these age groups must also play domestic basketball with CBA for the 2026/27 season (Domestic Summer 2026/27 and Winter 2027). Exemptions may be applied for in writing to the Board.
• From another association? Players registered with another VJBL association must complete a Permission to Train form via the VJBL website before their first tryout.

Frequently asked questions

My child has never played rep basketball — which group do I select? Select the New to Rep group for their age (U14, U16 or U18). Their tryout is Thursday 1 October.

We're coming from another VJBL club — which group? Select the VJBL group. This applies to players who currently play or have previously played VJBL anywhere, not just at Craigieburn.

My child is U12 or U20 with no experience — which group? Select the U12 or U20 group. These age groups don't have a separate New to Rep tryout — everyone registers into the one group for their age.

Can I get a refund if my child isn't selected? No. The $25 fee is non-refundable regardless of the outcome.

Can I watch the tryouts? Tryouts are closed sessions, so parents aren't permitted courtside. This keeps players focused and avoids any perception of bias.

What if my child can't make a session? Email vjbl@craigieburneagles.com.au before the session. Absences due to illness may require a medical certificate; planned absences (travel/holiday) should be noted at registration. Full detail is in the Tryout Guidelines.

What does it cost if my child is selected? The full season fee structure is in the Welcome Letter. The $25 tryout fee is separate and covers the tryout process only.

What if my child has an injury and cannot participate in tryouts? Please provide a medical certificate or/and stat dec.
